CORVALLIS VETERANS FOR PEACE
Minutes July 27, 2009

II. Administration:
Treasurers Report--Bart Bolger.
Total account balance: $1333
Usable, undesignated: $ 933

Benton Co Fair booth:
Alt2War gave $100
UU PAC gave $50
Total needed was $325
VFP share given $165
Bart ordered buttons, bracelets,
stickers for the Fair which came to $159 and will be sold at fair for 50
cents. Stickers and paper
and toner will be more like $100 from Staples
III. Past actions/events status and debrief:
Planning for Benton County Fair booth—Bob Stebbins.
We have 22 people involved plus Bart and Leah who will set up and take
down.
Bob read a draft of
guidelines for booth volunteers.
We offered suggestions for improvement. Bob will send a copy of the guidelines to booth volunteers.
All checks for Alt2War
T-Shirts to be made payable to VFP and a record will be kept for Alt2War
merchandise and VFP will reimburse then.
Bob reviewed some of the
handouts that will be available at the booth and we discussed and prioritized
them.
Planning for VFP National Convention—Leah Bolger.
Benji Lewis and Leah are going.
Leah will lead two workshops, one on Bring the Guard Home and the other
on how we can use the VFP Structure and be more effective in helping
others. Bart sent out a list of
resolutions and if you let Leah know she will bring your issue up and make
arguments. She leaves Tuesday, August
4.
After the conference is over,
on Monday, Leah is organizing an action (protest/demonstration) at the National
DNC office. DNC calls shots on who
get elected.
Squadron 13 Bus. George Hutchinson. George is requesting $50 for Gordon take
his bus to demonstrate at a Naval base in Washington.
Decision:
Contribute $50 through George
to contribute to bus gas.
Decision unanimous.
IV. Action Team Reports and Planning
Book
Report— Bob Stebbins. Dissent,
Voices of Conscience, by Col.
Ann Wright and Susan Dixon—a compendium of articles by retired generals,
high ranking officers, etc. who have opposed Rumsfeld and the Iraq war.
Truth in
Recruiting for upcoming school year—We need to plan and organize volunteers, make sure Opt Out forms are
available, including freshman.
Check if Opt Out forms are available at each school and worded OK. Also, get on schedule to be in schools. Bart will check Philomath schedule and
forms. George Hutchinson said he
would check on the Corvallis forms.

International Day of Peace Fair, Central Park.--Bob Winget and Leah are
on planning committee. Next
meeting Aug. 12 at 7pm at New Morning Bakery.
We
will have the use of Central Park with sound permits, food booths, etc. There will music and dance. It is not a protest event. It will be a fair for peace. There is a need for fund raising. Many other sponsors are helping. Tables, chairs, canopies are
needed. The City is loaning
$300 for required insurance.
There will be a parade at 4, at the end of the fair.
